Two Americans complicit in the escape of Carlos Ghosn extradited to Japan
Michael Taylor, 60, and his son Peter, 27, are accused of helping the former boss of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, to escape from Japan, where he was imprisoned for tax evasion, to Lebanon in December 2019.
After months of legal battle, the two Americans were handed over to the Japanese authorities on Monday and are imprisoned in Tokyo, in the same prison where Carlos Ghosn had been detained, to be judged. They face up to 4 years in prison.
The former US special forces member and his son, both on arrest warrants from Japan, were arrested in May in the United States. Presenting a "great risk of flight" they remained in detention until the US Supreme Court lifted the last obstacle to their extradition on February 13.
In Istanbul, three Turkish nationals were sentenced on February 24 to four years and two months in prison for the same reason. Two other pilots and two flight attendants have been released, while a final accomplice, George Zayek, has yet to be arrested.

Après des mois de bataille judiciaire, les deux Américains ont été remis lundi aux autorités japonaises et sont incarcérés à Tokyo, dans la même prison où avait été détenu Carlos Ghosn, afin d'être jugés. Ils risquent jusqu'à 4 ans de prison ferme.
L'ancien membre des forces spéciales américaines et son fils, tous deux visés par un mandat d'arrêt du Japon, avaient été arrêtés en mai aux États-Unis. Présentant un "grand risque de fuite" ils étaient restés détenus jusqu'à ce que la Cour suprême américaine ait levé le 13 février le dernier obstacle à leur extradition.
À Istanbul, trois ressortissants turcs ont été condamnés le 24 février à quatre ans et deux mois de prison pour la même raison. Deux autres pilotes et deux hôtesses de l'air ont été relaxés, tandis qu'un dernier complice, George Zayek, n'a pas encore été arrêté.
