Record trade
deficit
Japan lives on food
imports, but also on the export of technological products.
On Monday the
Minister of Finance announced
the ¥558.6 billion ($5.5
billion) deficit was the biggest since 1979. Last September Japanese exports recorded a
decline of 10.3%, while imports were increasing by 4%. In addition, the exports
to Europe declined by 21.1% and to China by 14.1%. Japan is well-known for its automobile industry, but
this industry has been most affected, with a 40% drop during this month. In contrast, exports to the United States rose 16.6%.
The trade of the
third world economy has suffered from the global economic slowdown and the
consequences of the diplomatic
conflict about the
Senkaku-Diaoyu islands with Beijing, which has prompted violent demonstrations
and boycotts of Japanese products in China.
This situation is
also complicated by the need for Japan to tackle the consequences of the
tsunami and the earthquake of March 2011. Since these natural disasters, Japan has had to import more of its
energy.
16,6%.
Dans le même
temps, les importations augmentaient de 4%.
