National tribute a word

The archives introduced the prop to allow visitors to relive the moment in 1989 when then Chief Cabinet Secretary Keizo Obuchi announced “Heisei” as the name of the new Imperial era.

The archives possess the “Heisei no Sho” (Heisei calligraphy) that Obuchi presented during the announcement and that was shown in the background.

The main archives and annex began selling plastic folders printed with the inscription last spring. Only visitors who buy the folder can take their photo through the frame. As of Monday, the annex’s stock of 260 folders had sold out, though it expects to receive more from the main archives in late February.

Lundi dernier, à l'annexe des Archives nationales du Japon à Tsukuba, dans la préfecture d'Ibaraki, un présentateur, debout derrière une fausse télévision, exhibait un dossier un dossier plastifié portant le mot Heisei.

C’était la façon qu’avaient choisie les Archives nationales pour présenter au public le support qui allait permettre aux visiteurs de revivre le moment historique où, en 1989, le Secrétaire général du Cabinet, Keizo Obuchi, dans un geste identique qu’on pouvait voir en arrière-plan, avait annoncé que « Heise» serait le nom de la nouvelle ère impériale.

Les archives possèdent le «Heisei no Sho» (calligraphie de Heisei) qu'Obuchi avait présenté lors de l'annonce publique.

Les archives principales et l'annexe ont commencé à vendre ces dossiers portant la fameuse inscription au printemps dernier. Seuls les visiteurs qui achètent le dossier peuvent prendre leur photo du document original.

À la date de lundi, les 260 dossiers disponibles étaient épuisés, mais il est prévu un nouvel arrivage au site principal des Archives nationales à la fin du mois de février.
