In Sapporo City, at least 40 people were injured in an explosion that destroyed a restaurant and an estate office. The explosion took place in the Toyohira district. According to firefighters, 19 other buildings and 26 vehicles were damaged within 100 meters of the explosion.
The cause hasn’t been found, but apparently, it might be aerosols. An employee of the agency said that they used more than 100 aerosols to sterilize and deodorize the office. The blast happened after one of the agency workers turned on the water heater to wash his hands after using an aerosol.
When the explosion happened, 40 people were in the restaurant and two others were in the offices. The victims range from 1 to 60 years old. A 33-year old man from the office is struggling for life with facial burns.
The restaurant collapsed and was invaded by flames, the outside wall of the restaurant completely disappeared in the explosion. Twenty people were on the second floor, they all tried to reach the broken wall, but soon, the floor collapsed. The panic was so important, that people were trying to get out by any possible way. Mina Ward, 28, jumped from the second floor; he is entirely hurt on the right side of his body and has suffered cuts on his fingers.
The guests at the bottom of the restaurant were all rushing toward the exit, walking on each other. It was total Chaos. Chuo Ward said, “I thought I could not make it when I saw the fire.” “I was terrified”, said Minami. The firefighters finally extinguished the fire surrounded by rubbles, broken windows and ashes.

Lors de l’explosion, près de 40 personnes se trouvaient dans le restaurant et deux autres dans les bureaux. Les victimes ont de un à soixante ans. Un homme de 33 ans qui se trouvait dans les bureaux est dans un état grave avec des brûlures au visage.
Le restaurant s’est effondré et a été envahi par les flammes, le mur extérieur du restaurant a totalement disparu durant l’explosion.
Environ 20 personnes se trouvaient au deuxième étage, ils ont tous essayé de sortir par le mur effondré mais très vite, le sol a cédé. Durant l’explosion, la panique était tellement importante, que les gens cherchaient à sortir par tous les moyens possibles. Minami Ward, âgé de 28 ans, a sauté du deuxième étage. Il est blessé sur tout le côté droit de son corps et a subi des coupures aux doigts. Les clients qui étaient en bas du restaurant se sont entassés les uns sur les autres. C’était le chaos total : « Je pensais ne pas y arriver quand j’ai vu le feu » « J’étais terrifié » a déclaré Minami. Les pompiers ont finalement éteint le feu au milieu de décombres, de vitres de brisées et de cendres.
