On Monday 7 October, 2019 dozens of Korean fishermen were found off the
coast of Japan after their
boat had collided with a Japanese Navy patrol boat.
Authorities claimed to have saved many people. They
are checking to see if nobody has disappeared.
The boat that was fishing illegally sank in the Yamatotai area, a fertile
land for squid fishing. The
shock occurred when the patrol boat approached to order the Koreans to leave the area.
Japan has increased patrols in the region in the last
two years. While the poaching of squid has increased.
Coast guard vessels have been patrolling the area
since May.
Patrols boats have filed nearly five hundred poaching
expulsions between May and August.
Experts say, the rising in poaching is caused by the
country’s move to grow fish catches.
In June, the Japanese coast guard repelled three
hundred boats from Yamatotai waters.
The local authorities also said that a fishing boat
threatened the patrol boats with a gun last August.

ordonner aux Coréens de quitter les lieux.
Le Japon a
augmenté ses patrouilles dans la région ces deux dernières années, tandis que
le braconnage de calamars a augmenté. Des garde-côtes patrouillent depuis mai dans la région.
Les
patrouilleurs ont procédé à près
de cinq cents expulsions de braconniers entre mai et août.
Les experts estiment que l’augmentation
du braconnage est due à la politique
coréenne d’intensification de
la pêche.
En juin, les garde-côtes japonais ont écarté trois cents bateaux
des eaux de Yamatotai.
Les autorités
ont également déclaré que l’équipage
d’un bateau de pêche avait menacé les patrouilles avec une arme à feu en août.
