Sunday 1 February Capital punishment

Japan is one of the only countries to apply the death penalty. Between 1946 and 1993, 766 inmates were sentenced to death by the Japanese court, but only 608 were executed. The capital punishment is applied to those guilty of several murders, rape or robbery. They are hanged in a death chamber. The death penalty is supported by the public in Japan, (around 80 percent of the population) which has one of the world’s lowest crime rates. Last Thursday, four murderers were executed in Tokyo, Nagoya and Fukuoka. They were each convicted of the murder of one or more people.

My point of view:

I chose this subject because I totally disagree with this method which killed, kills and will kill a lot of people, innocent or not. The fact that 80 percent of the population in Japan supports the death penalty is unbelievable. Killing a murderer is meaningless. It’s just committing another murder! As for me, nobody is allowed to kill someone else and there are absolutely no reasons to justify an execution. I think that the election of the new president of the United States, Barack Obama, will change many things among which the capital punishment.

Le Japon est l’un des seuls pays appliquant la peine de mort. Entre 1946 et 1993, 766 détenus ont été condamnés à mort par les tribunaux japonais mais seulement 608 ont été exécutés. La peine capitale est appliquée aux coupables de plusieurs meurtres, viols ou vols. Ils sont pendus dans une chambre d’exécution. La peine de mort est approuvée par l’opinion publique japonaise (environ 80 pour cent de la population) qui a l’un des taux de criminalité le plus bas au monde. Jeudi dernier, quatre meurtriers ont été exécutés à Tokyo, Nagoya et Fukuoka. Ils étaient chacun condamnés pour le meurtre d’une ou plusieurs personnes.

Mon point de vue:

J’ai choisi ce sujet car je désapprouve totalement cette méthode qui a tué, tue et tuera de nombreuses personnes, innocentes ou pas. Le fait que 80 pour cent de la population japonaise approuvent la peine de mort est impensable. Tuer un meurtrier est absurde. Ce n’est que commettre un autre meurtre ! Pour moi, personne n’est autorisé à tuer quelqu’un d’autre et il n’y a absolument aucune raison qui justifie une exécution. Je pense que l’élection du nouveau président des Etats Unis, Barack Obama, changera de nombreuses choses comme la peine capitale. Oscar
