On October 29, 2014, Crown Princess Masako attended a banquet with visiting Dutch Royals: King William Alexander and his wife, Queen Maxima. This event was her first welcome ceremony in five years.
Princess Masako, who is 50, is the wife of Crown Prince Naruhito, the heir to the imperial throne of Japan.
The banquet was her first such appearance in 11 years, since her daughter’s birth, Aiko who is 12 now. After joining the imperial family in 1993, she began to suffer from a stress-related illness.
Last year, the Royals attended the king’s inauguration in the Netherlands, where they have close ties. Her coming was a sign of her recovery.
The event took place in Tokyo. About 160 guests, such as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, were also invited. It was hosted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.
